In some areas of life incremental change works just fine to bring good results. In other areas it’s much better for change to be abrupt and immediate. If danger is imminent, or disaster of some sort is the clear result of a behavior, then clearly the best course of action is to turn and walk in a new direction. Look to nature for examples of both incremental and immediate change. The slow growth of a seed as it emerges from the earth produces lovely flowers or fruit, while dark rain clouds cannot hold back from abruptly spilling the heavy rain they hold. But the human heart and mind have one thing that nature lacks and that is the power to think and act intuitively and with precision. Don’t forget that, and don’t forget to use this power to propel your life in a new direction of your own choosing when the time is right.

Intent is exertion of will upon stubbornness. When stubbornness exists, despite all good intentions to change, it is the exertion of will that will finally bring about the desired effect. Intend with a good dose of will and your desired change will surely begin making its mark upon your life. Calmly and surely know in your mind that this is true and immediately see the results.

It is often said that the key to perfect health is moderation in everything. Life however does not practice moderation. It is full of ups and downs, high points and low points and many extremes. The human mind however can do anything. A thought can shift and change even a most dire situation into one of calmness. It was a human thought that decided that moderation was key to human health and wellbeing. The ability to think and reason is purely human and part of the evolution of the species. Seek moderation in everything and see how it effects you. That’s the other half of thought—experience. It is the human experience that teaches as much as thought does.

When change is the plan, some things are best let go of early, as soon as they are deemed unnecessary, while others are best taken to the bitter end. Often a habit will only release itself when it has been played to the fullest. At other times a habit may be easily dropped, for it is not of karmic importance. A karmic habit is one that sticks around and teaches you a great many things about yourself. When you have finally learned the lessons it came to teach you it will easily leave too. Keep in mind that everything has something to teach, especially that which is most persistent.

Be aware of negative thinking, how you automatically begin the usual pattern of negative self talk, how you can’t seem to shift away from old thoughts simply because they are so ingrained. Investigate them as they arise. Are they actually true? Sometimes they are just old ideas that no longer have meaning or value. Sometimes they point to some other underlying issue that perhaps once had power but no longer does. Combat negativity with positivity and discover that you have indeed changed. Allow things to shift in a new direction because it’s actually the right thing to do.
