Chuck’s Place: Growth During Life In A Blackout

Find Truth & Wisdom within…
-Artwork © 2026 Jan Ketchel

Mirror, mirror, on the world,
what is the truth, of it all?
Darkness, darkness,
a blackout, over all.

The darkness reflects a world blackened and misled by delusion and error, absent the light of truth and wisdom.

The sage parents of our world, Truth and Wisdom, though always present, wait in silence. They know that their willful yet immature child must suffer the impact of its actions to truly grow.

Much pain and misery are meted out, and much pain and misery must equally be suffered. These are the natural consequences of cause and effect. Such is the state of our blackout world, as it cavalierly pursues its erroneous intentions.

Truth and Wisdom are always available for consultation, but their answers can never take sides. All of humanity are their children. Their purview is wholeness, all-inclusive, and for the greater good of all.

The willful child is not ready to share. It certainly does not want to hear the unbiased truth from its parents. And so it must play out its desires, until its lonely selfishness is ready and wanting and needing of greater inclusion. Timeouts from parents, however wise, never achieve this depth of growth.

The world is flush with deception, opinions and errors whose actions shake the roots of safety and stability and generate primal anxiety. The Earth itself mirrors these effects in the extremes of its weather patterns, threatening the survival of all.

The saving grace of this pervasive breakdown is its eventual clearing of the grave errors that black out our view and access to necessary changes. In its place is the coming of the Age of Aquarius, the rising of greater truth and wisdom to lead our worldly dream into greater wonderment, the next stage of our evolutionary path.

For humanity to reach this level of heartfelt desire, it must first fully play out its obsession with narcissism, with all its repercussions. Then it will be fully primed to experience love beyond its self, love for the greater good of all.

What is our role individually in this time of blackout? Well, as always: as without, so within.

We are both parent and child within ourselves. The inner child is the main character in this life. The inner parent occupies the place of the High Self, replete with divine truth and wisdom. The parent’s goal is that the child mature and find its way to happiness and fulfillment.

The parent freely offers guidance, particularly when genuinely consulted, however also knows that real growth is an inside job. Every child, at whatever stage of life, must live and learn from its own errors before it can become settled within itself, ready to serve the real truth.

In general, the child operates on the pleasure principle. Pleasure includes sensual pleasure but also refers to achieving happiness, contentment and fulfillment in all areas of life. The child is endowed with innocence, a purity driven by the pleasure of curiosity and discovery, unsullied by shame and fear.

Unfortunately, the craving for lost innocence is so great that it is a fundamental driver in child sexual abuse, where the abuser seeks to steal innocence from the child.

However, innocence is also lost in many other ways during childhood, including the impact of socialization upon the purely innocent child, who’s blank slate is immediately filled with the rules and regulations and beliefs of life in this world, as well as through the side effects of normal developmental lines, including encounters with inner narcissism and the vicissitudes of love and attachment.

The child state, whether in actual childhood or in adulthood, is on a mission to regain and achieve its innate state of happiness. The vast majority of dreams I have ever looked at, as a clinician, reference the child element in some form. The child is always depicting our growth potential or our growing challenges.

Often, the child, or ego in the personality, harbors false stories and beliefs, which defend against the truth and sensitivity of its lost innocence and the pursuit of its genuine desire for happiness. Operating thus, in a blackout state, it must live out its illusions until it is ready for the truth.

These are the inner errors we also see being committed upon the outer world stage, which black out the light of truth. The child, or ego, might turn to its inner wise parent for guidance, but, if the ego is still prejudiced—wanting to hate or desire what isn’t best for it—the parent must remain silent.

Growth can only come when the ego grows beyond attachment to the negative gratification derived from a self-destructive behavior. Ego must live out its illusions to truly grow to this new place. And when it has grown to experience pleasure beyond its unproductive fixation, it will find itself in greater alignment with Truth and Wisdom, the wise parents within.

The greatest guidance for growth now, in this time of blackout, is to ignite the light of honesty within the self. We can stop ourselves, like good parents, from doing what we shouldn’t do, but it will be defeated if we don’t arrive at real pleasure on a more truthful level.

Be honest with your participation in your illusions. Question if that’s really where you need to be at this moment. Perhaps it’s time to move on now. Perhaps it’s time for a real change. Open to change in alignment with truth and wisdom—when you are truly ready.

Shedding light, hopefully,
Chuck

Chuck’s Place: The Art Of Wholeness

Transformation from within…

Inner alchemy is the art of creating a fulfilled life that encompasses, unites and transcends all the polarities within the Self. This state of unified wholeness requires several steps to achieve.

The first stage involves the breakdown and dissolution of our current state of being. Truthfully, we are always in a state of wholeness, as we are always all that we are. At issue is the state of balance our wholeness is in.

For example, suffering a painful backache could be a displaced psychosomatic exchange for repressed feelings of sadness. Here, balance is achieved through the experience of emotional pain converted to physical pain.

Caroline Elliot’s Existential Kink playfully explores the many personality kinks hidden in the shadow of the self, which serve to balance the dominance of one-sided conscious attitudes. I recommend exploring her work to reveal the kinks that might be disrupting personal balance.

The current state of our world reflects extremely volatile states of balance that are serving the breakdown and dissolution of the world as we have known it. The primary elements of fire, water, earth and air are all engaged in environmental extremes that are insisting upon a new way of living that can usher in a sustainable balance. This breakdown of what has been is the essential first step toward new life.

Inwardly, breakdown of the ruling attitude in the psyche is the essential first step to new life. Often this can take the form of an immobilizing depression that refuses to fund our ability to experience ourselves, and life, in our familiar comfort zone. Such a withdrawal of life energy prompts the need for a soul retrieval; that is, a journey into the unconscious to discover and recover unknown or lost parts of the self, the building blocks for new life.

The second stage in the art of wholeness is the untangling and separation of opposites within the self. This is the stage of know thyself, with detachment; that is, not identifying with a one-sided feeling, attitude or judgment that precludes a broader inclusion of all parts of self.

The separation phase is dramatically reflected in the absolute polarization of citizens throughout the world into black and white one-sided attitudes. This stage of separation is still heavily intertwined with the breakdown phase, as people are blinded by projections that would have them resolve imbalance through the elimination of those who oppose them. This was Hitler’s final solution to the challenge of opposition.

Inwardly, this state of separation can result in a state of mental cruelty, with negative critical thinking constantly judging and putting the self down. Nonetheless, if one can hone this reflective impetus into objective introspection, one can arrive at a state of clarity that prepares the way for new union.

Dispassionate knowing and acceptance of the truth offer preparation for a new union of elements within the self, the third stage, in which a new worldview or ruling attitude achieves a durable balance.

This stage is represented symbolically in the conjugal union of the opposites of man and woman. The mixture of these elements will ultimately result in the creation of a child, which presents a life that has incorporated the opposites of its parents into its own unique wholeness. As I discussed in my blog last week, a child in dreams often reflects this alchemy within, seeking to find its way to birth into life.

Hold the perspective that the chaos and separation both within and without are necessary stages in the art of wholeness. Ancient alchemists performed their operations within a sealed retort, allowing the contained energies themselves to facilitate the process of transformation.

In our day and age, containment socially would mean not engaging in heated interchange, but striving to arrive at detachment and truth within.

Similarly, containment within is best served through detachment from mental cruelty, as the point is to transform the old attitudes and thoughts into a newly sincere commitment to know and serve only the truth.

Contained within,
Chuck

Find solace in knowing that all things change. Though progress may seem slow, progress is happening nonetheless, even if it is only that the truth is being revealed. Once the truth is revealed it can never be unknown. The truth alone will lead to change. As day changes into night so will things in the world change as well. Practice patience with a compassionate heart and you can weather through anything in a loving way.

Speak the truth, learn the truth, know that the truth is what matters, within and without. To hold silent when the truth will heal is neglectful. To avoid the truth is dangerous. To prevent the truth from being known is devious. In times of trial and tribulation the truth must rule for the needed changes to prevail. Within the self know the truth so that your personal life, actions and thoughts may be guided by and based in truth. In this manner, so will you prevail through all your own trials and tribulations and good will return to rule.

Chuck’s Place: May Suggestion Embrace The Current of Truth

The current of heart centered truth…

Suggestion is the connection to the imagination of the human soul. The mere hint of a possibility seeds the foundation of a story that bursts forth, in all its particulars, from the raw materials of the subconscious mind, in concert with the logic of consciousness.

Perhaps the greatest works of art and literature, as well as scientific discoveries, have their roots in the power of suggestion, as it conjures and takes shape in the interplay between the subconscious and conscious minds.

The subconscious has access to every detail of all we have ever experienced, since conception, and even before. The subconscious, as a piece of the hologram of infinity, also stores the collective history of humankind, with all its accrued knowledge.

When Edgar Cayce, with his simple 8th grade education, gave an intuitive health reading, he had access to in-depth medical treatments from all historical times. At the same time, Cayce required, in trance, to be asked questions to give needed answers, as the subconscious requires suggestion; it is not a freethinking mind. For this, the directed thinking of consciousness is required.

The subconscious, with its unlimited ability to generate information, is the automatic mind that guided our evolutionary ancestors. The birth of ego consciousness—the hallmark of a sense of personal identity, and the ability to reason and override subconscious instinct—is a very recent human acquisition. In fact, the automatic mind of the subconscious dominates both the running of the physical body and most mental processes as well.

The shamans point out that the incessant repetition of the internal dialogue that we all experience is nothing other than the drone of the subconscious, as it generates the preprogrammed suggestions that contour our habitual sense of self. Whatever core beliefs we have about ourselves are constantly reinforced by suggestions fed to us by programs embedded in our subconscious, which we unwittingly reinforce daily at a conscious level.

Much of the cognitive and emotional distress we encounter in our lives is actually generated by suggestions we automatically give ourselves from the moment we awaken to each new day. Those suggestions generate the familiar stories we live by. If consciousness made a concerted and persevering effort to suggest a different storyline to our subconscious, we could open up to an entirely different sense of self. The key is to have faith and belief in the suggestion we embrace.

Suggestion is at the heart of marketing psychology, that which controls much of our economic behavior. Suggestion has run rampant on social media as well, as people unconsciously absorb fake news, and as they subsequently take on the polarized attitudes and stories encoded in those viral suggestions.

Once the subconscious takes in a new suggestion, that suggestion becomes its truth and it rallies all its resources around its imperative. It remains for consciousness to judge the validity of the storyline. If consciousness does not engage its reason to objectively evaluate the story, it automatically becomes the story we adopt and live by.

The current of truth is the one story that actually aligns with the truth in the world. The many currents of nature—be they the tides, the fires, the earthquakes or winds—reveal the truth of climate change. Despite this objective truth, many people still believe in subjective stories that don’t acknowledge the actual truth.

The current of truth is actually the Tao, the harmonious law of nature that validates the simple truth of cause and effect. Humans are free to embrace whatever story they wish, however, nature’s currents of truth will continue to react to human miscalculation.

Eventually, humans will embrace the suggestion to live in the current of truth, as it is the only combination that will ensure the necessary balance and harmony for survival.

The truth is, all are empowered to embrace this intent now, simply by offering new suggestions to the self to flow with the current of truth.

When consciousness embraces the truth, the subconscious will rally its potentiality around this directive, and the world will be remade in a truthful story. Now that’s a story worth embracing!

Suggesting the current of truth,

Chuck
