Pace yourself in all you do. Slow down. Smell the roses. Take time to breathe. Notice how slowly nature makes her changes, how a flower seed slowly germinates, begins to sprout roots and stem, and how determined its slow pace to blossoming is. Notice how settled and slowly a tree grows, contented to just be. When you rush you miss out on the subtleties that are inherent in nature, the moments of delight and the chance to feel alive in each moment. Try it and savor what you’ve been missing.

In some areas of life incremental change works just fine to bring good results. In other areas it’s much better for change to be abrupt and immediate. If danger is imminent, or disaster of some sort is the clear result of a behavior, then clearly the best course of action is to turn and walk in a new direction. Look to nature for examples of both incremental and immediate change. The slow growth of a seed as it emerges from the earth produces lovely flowers or fruit, while dark rain clouds cannot hold back from abruptly spilling the heavy rain they hold. But the human heart and mind have one thing that nature lacks and that is the power to think and act intuitively and with precision. Don’t forget that, and don’t forget to use this power to propel your life in a new direction of your own choosing when the time is right.

Early springtime poses many changes, from warm and pleasant days to cold and snowy ones buffeted by heavy winds. It’s the time of precipice, before spring births forth. Within the self the time of precipice shows up at any time of year, the struggle for something new to emerge. As with the days of early spring there is a settling that will take place and the tensions of the precipice will abate. With patience, what was once so urgent and even dangerous at spring’s awakening will smooth into a warm summer’s day. With a confident heart and steady eye on the future look forward to what is to come in the sure blooming ahead, as it always comes.

Center yourself so that you are in synch with nature, so that you feel and adjust to the rhythms of the day and the night, to the triumphs of the light and the depths of the dark, to the moods of the weather and the highlights of the natural flow of each day as it comes and goes. In synch with nature your own soul will become more known, your connection beyond body ego more direct and your place in the world more unified. It’s okay to step back from the chaos and just be.

Spend a little time in nature. Take a walk in the woods, put a foot in a stream or lake, glance at the sky. Too many people never look up and thus they miss the perspective of the vastness of life on Earth. They don’t get to experience the sense of oneness that the sky offers, the same sky that everyone sees. In the daytime, the clouds float by like memories from around the world and at night the stars speak of the vast unknown that everyone wonders about. Let nature show you that you are not so different from everyone else, that indeed there is a sense of oneness to it all.
