In times of stress be aware that ideas of illness can arise. This might mean that an inkling of sickness is really telling you to slow down, that you are doing too much, giving too much, overwhelming your own body with too many stress hormones that find no place to rest. Take care of your body, especially during times of stress, for rest of the body, mind and spirit are as important as peace in the world. And if you are not at peace within yourself then there will not be peace outside of you either. So, get some good and nurturing rest in whatever stress-free way appeals to you, for a stress-free you will mean a stress-free world.

Take care of yourself even as you care deeply about others. Take care that you are in tiptop shape so that you may be available to those you love deeply but also available to monitor and guide yourself through trying times. It’s very important for those who can offer help to others to be mindful of their own shortcomings and their own tendencies to over-give, to overcompensate, and to become codependent, without regard to their own needs. A caregiver must also care about the self, and perhaps this is the most important aspect of caregiving, to be caring of and about the self in times of stress but also in times of rest. For to truly be a giver, one must also truly become a receiver, and that might just mean saying no.

Certain days have more energy than others and you may notice how one day may bring drastic actions and the next none at all. Such is the law of karma, the law of entropy, and the law of change. Let your own energy dictate to you what is right to do on any given day. Check in with yourself to see how you are feeling and how much energy you have to give to others. Check in with yourself to see if you need something that you are not attending to for yourself as well. Oftentimes, the givers are the ones who most need but refuse to admit it. Take time for yourself and your own mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health today.

As mentioned at the beginning of this week, the first step in gaining the balance and the space you need to do your inner work is to take back your mind, your subconscious mind, by feeding it nurturing words, words of substance and balance, words of value and kindness, words of compassion and love. Fill your mind with mantras of words that have meaning for you, words that you can anchor in when the old words try to reenter your sphere. Speak them away with your new words of hope, love and healing.

Restate your commitment and make a plan for how you will change today. What will you choose to do that will take you another step in the direction of your goal?
