Wear not a countenance of anger but a countenance of love. Feel not displeasure but find compassion in your heart. See not meanness and atrocity but search for the kindness and goodness that is all around you. Live not in fear but in hope, for every day finds you poised to make another moment of life better, one day and one person at a time. Guard your energy. Not every fight is worth fighting, not every cause worthy of the amount of energy needed. Weigh carefully where you decide to place your attention. Ask your heart and your gut to guide you on what is right and how to go about it and then give it your all. But until then wait patiently and quietly, gathering information, so that when you do fight your attack may come out of the blue and with the surprise of a mighty force. That is how best to use your energy. But you may have to wait patiently for a long time. Do so with the compassion and intelligence of a spiritual being. That alone has great force and power and in itself may be enough.

Begin each day by getting into alignment with your inner Self, with your spirit within, with your heart. Accept what has already occurred but keep your focus inward on what is right for the moment you are in. Empty your mind so that it may align with your heart and from this place begin your day. Stay heart centered. Readjust often throughout the day. Heart over mind, heart over matter, heart over pain, heart over sorrow, heart over all. That is the right alignment. It’s always a matter of heart!

I had the good fortune of a brief, private audience with Laurens Van der Post back in the 1970s. I asked him whether Jung really meant that what an individual resolved within themselves could indeed radically change the world. He replied, “that was Jung’s absolute conviction.”
In this time, where so much energy is drawn outwardly to the decisions of rulers overpowering our destiny, I pass on links to Laurens Van der Post’s three-part series on Jung’s contribution to our time, which captures the inner path to change. I am indebted to a young man for his research in finding the links to these valuable films which have been lost to me for decades.
