When negative thoughts about the self arise counter them with new practices. Use negativity as a catalyst to change. Rather than greet it as an old friend, send it packing like a bad guest no longer allowed to visit. Shove it out the door and then leave the door open, not so anything can come in, but so that you may feel the absence of your gnarly guest, the emptiness of yourself. If your next thought is negative get rid of it too, keeping the door open for longer, stretching the moments of emptiness. That should keep you pretty busy. Before you know it you’ll start to feel pretty good because emptiness is a fine friend. Cultivate that relationship.
