A tree does not grow well in infertile soil. A stream does not flow if not constantly replenished. A mind does not change its thoughts if not fed new ideas. A constant tending, nurturing, and stimulation are necessary for life to be sustained with any measure of success. Keep the self always in tiptop shape, within and without, and life will grant you its fullness in equal measure. Life, it’s what you choose to make it. You get what you give.

Before there is resolution without there must first be resolution within. Before there is calmness without there must be calmness within. Before there is gentleness without there must be gentleness within, for the world without reflects what lives within. For conflict without to be resolved therefore, conflict within must first be resolved. There is no need to look far for the answers, for the answers lie within. You are the container and the contained, bearing all that you need. You are all you need for change to happen, for you are the change maker, the light bringer, and the love bearer too. The changing times need your light and your love. Don’t be afraid to let them out.

What lies inside you at your core? And beneath that? And then deeper than even that? Empty the self one layer at a time, one emotional blockage at a time, one driving need at a time until you arrive at your emptiness. Then fill yourself with all that is good, with loving kindness and compassion for self and other, remaining open to give and receive all that is meant for you, for it is in the emptying and the receiving that you will truly learn how to finally give without attachment, to love with compassion, and to be kind without desire.

Face all that you have to face about the self and yet keep moving in a forward direction, for life does not move backwards but once sparked alive knows only growth until its light goes out. A tree springing forth from the darkness of the earth seeks always the light in the sky, the wind in its branches, the rain upon its leaves, striving always to go higher and higher. The human spirit too seeks the light, the mysteries all around, and the resolution of all that is within, bringing forth its beauty and bounty to culminate in the fruits of a life lived one day at a time, striving always for truth, love, and compassion, within and without. That is a life well lived. Begin this week in that vein, a human spirit on a higher mission, seeking always the answers in the light of day and the dark of night, within and without.
